Hawzah News Agency- In its statement, the faction said it "strongly condemns and denounces" the suspension of Iranian airline flights to Iraqi airports and refuses to accept that the matter be managed in a way that implies Iraq's decisions are being dictated from abroad, or that the interests of citizens and Iraq's relations with its neighbors can be suspended in response to foreign pressure.
Iraqi sovereignty is not a phrase to be recalled in speeches and set aside when decisions are made, the faction said, adding that it is unacceptable for a measure with such consequences to be taken without considering the will of the Iraqi people or those whose travel has been disrupted and whose interests have been harmed.
The bloc noted that the suspension's effects have reached Iraqi and Iranian pilgrims, complicating their access to the holy shrines in both countries and adding to the burden on patients, students, and families — as if these religious and humanitarian ties could be the price of conflicts with which citizens have no connection.
While stressing that good neighborliness and the protection of mutual interests are firm principles of the national interest, the Independent Bloc called on the Iraqi government to immediately review the measure and allow Iranian airline flights to Iraqi airports to resume.
The faction stressed that it will not accept Iraqis paying the price for a decision beyond their will, or any erosion of their country's sovereignty over its territory and airports.
